Collect

O Lord, raise up, we pray, your power

 and come among us, and with great might succour us;

that whereas, through our sins and wickedness

we are grievously hindered in running the race that is set before us,

your bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

to whom with you and the Holy Spirit,

be honour and glory, now and for ever.     Amen

Post Communion

Father in heaven,

 who sent Son to redeem the world

and will send him again to be our judge:

give us grace so to imitate him

 in the humility and purity of his first coming

that, when he comes again, we may be ready to greet him

 with joyful love and firm faith;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.      Amen

Readings for Today

Isaiah 11: 1-10; – Isaiah paints a picture of a shoot growing from a stump that seemed dead – we now know that shoot to be Jesus.  At the heart of his mission are peace and restoration, not just for us but for the whole of creation.

Romans 15: 4-13; – As we wait in great hope for the coming of Christ, we must strive to be like Christ.  Those who are strong and powerful need especially to heed these words.  We are reminded of the inclusive nature of God’s love and called to welcome others as God has welcome us.

Matthew 3: 1-12; – John the Baptist prepares the way for Jesus by calling everyone to repentance.

Volunteers required

Each parish of the Benefice should send representatives to Synod meetings – both Diocesan and Deanery.  At present we have two representatives who attend Deanery meetings from Blendworth and one representative who attends the Diocesan meetings.  These meetings occur about 4 times a year and anyone who could attend on behalf of Idsworth and Chalton would be most welcome.  They will need to make a brief overview of the meeting attended to the PCC at the next meeting.  If you would like to represent your parish Vickie would be delighted to hear from you.  Thank you
