O Lord, we beseech you mercifully to hear the prayers

of your people who call upon you;

and grant that they may both perceive and know

what things they ought to do,

and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil them;

through Jesus Christ you Son our Lord

who is alive and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.       Amen.

Post Communion

Almighty God,

you have taught us through your Son

that love is the fulfilling of the law;

grant that we may love you with our whole heart

and our neighbours as ourselves;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.    Amen.

Readings for Today

Isaiah 50: 4-9a; The Lord’s servant has listened to God and given ear to the teacher. Many hurled insults and physical blows, but he did not retaliate, knowing that God would vindicate and was near. If the Lord helps, who can declare the servant guilty?

James 3: 1-12;  Not many should become teachers.  They will be judged more harshly. Although small, the tongue is a fire which no one can tame.  It blesses God, but also curses those who were made in the likeness of God.

Mark 8: 27-end;  Jesus asks his disciples who people say that he is.  John the Baptist or Elijah, they reply.  He then asks who the disciples say that he is and Peter declares, “You are the Messiah.”  Jesus then foretells his death and resurrection and Peter rebukes him.  But Jesus tells them that those who want to follow him must take up their cross.

“Ride and Stride

HIHCT is an organisation that supports the care and maintenance of parish churches by giving grants to those who apply to them for financial help.  Their major fundraising activity comes through the annual sponsored Ride and Stride event – which this year took place on the 8th September.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to those who on behalf of our parishes ” Rode and Strode”.and attended the Coffee Morning at Blendworth Church.

Half of the amount they raised will go to the organisation to fund grants whilst the other half will be returned to the supporting parishes for their funds. It is not too late to sponsor them retrospectively and details are given below.
