Collect

Almighty and everlasting God,

who in your tender love towards the human race

sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ

to take upon him our flesh

and to suffer death upon the cross:

grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility,

and also be made partakers of his resurrection;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.      Amen

Post Communion

Lord Jesus Christ,

you humbled yourself in taking the form of a servant,

and in obedience died on the cross for our salvation:

give us the mind to follow you

and to proclaim you as Lord and King,

to the glory of God the Father.      Amen

Readings for Today

Liturgy of the Palms

Luke 19: 28-40: Having sent the disciples ahead to untie and bring a colt to him, Jesus rides it into Jerusalem, to be greeted by a rapturous crowd.

Liturgy of the Passion

Isaiah 50: 4-9a: With the Lord on our side we have nothing to fear.

Philippians 2: 5-11: Christians are to put aside personal ambition and follow Christ’s example of humble servanthood, allowing God to work in them, as Christ was raised to glory.

Luke 22: 14-end of 23: The passion story takes us through the Last Supper, Peter’s cowardly act of denial, the betrayal of Judas Iscariot, Jesus brought before Pilate, his journey through Jerusalem to his place of execution, and his death upon the cross.  Through it all, until the final bleak hours of his mission on earth, Jesus displays compassion and grace, courage and obedience.

An Interregnum Prayer

God our Father – You have welcomed each one of us in Christ Jesus and called us to be his body in this place; send us your Holy Spirit, at this time of uncertainty and change, to fill us with vision, energy, and faithfulness in prayer, that we may be true to our calling to bring new life to our community.  Guide those on whom will fall an extra burden of responsibility during this time of vacancy.  And give wisdom to those who are to choose new incumbents for this united benefice, and the adjoining parishes, in the proposed pastoral reorganisation.  That the ones whom we receive may be wise and gentle shepherds of your people: ready to serve us with joy, to build us up in faith, and to lead us by example in loving obedience to your son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.    Amen.
